Cinnamon Dough Christmas Ornaments
Prognosis: Good
There was a lot of trial and error involved in creating these sweet ornaments. I made so many changes to the original recipe I found that I created my own to make the end product less crumbly and sturdier. Makes 8-10 ornaments.
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cup cinammon
1 1/4 cup applesauce
2 tablespoons of craft glue
Tools and Materials:
Cookie cutters in desired shapes
Plastic Wrap
Rolling Pin
Drinking straw
Ribbon
Glitter Glue (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
- Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. You may need to use your hands to get mixture even.
- Roll out dough in between 2 sheets of plastic wrap to at least 1/4. (Mine were somewhere between 1/4-1/2 inch thick before baking. If make larger ornaments, you’ll need to make them thicker in order to transfer them to baking sheet without breaking.
- Use regular sized cookie cutters to create desired shapes. Transfer shapes to baking sheet lined with parchment paper. (I used a thin spatula for this part). Use a tooth pick or knife to smooth out edges. Poke a hole in the top of the ornament with a drinking straw for the hanging ribbon to go through.
- Bake in oven for 3 to 3 and half hours.
- Let completely dry and cool before handling. Loop ribbon through hole and tie.
- Optional: Decorate. I used glitter glue to create designs on some of my ornaments. I left others blank.
Treatment Plan: These might look really pretty decorated with white paint, although the dough does seem quite absorbent. Not too sure how it would turn out. Will let you know next year! You could also decorate with regular glitter and glue, ribbon, beads, buttons- endless possibilites!
